My advice:
First of all, if you want to get a QNAP, the x86 architecture models are much better, you can run Docker containers on it, or even virtual operating system! Then, those arm ones only support some limited file-sharing services, like AFP, SMB, WebDAV( which can be configuared to accessed out of home when DDNS is ready ).
As for concrete use, I suggest you to buy a QNAP which is so stable, just open a WebDAV service, and run a ddns script in its Container Station( a Docker hosting app ), configure the Port-forwarding on your router, then you just enter your domain path as your WebDAV path, it's easy to access whether you are at or out of your home( over LAN or WAN ).
You can also run a NextCloud Docker, then it just becomes a cloud drive server, that's not bad.
