語源 / Etymology

フランス語の attendre（待つ、注意を向ける）に由来する英語の動詞 attend（出席する）に、「～される人」を表す接尾辞 -ee が付いた語。本来 -ee は受動的な意味（例：employee＝雇われる人）を持つが、attendee の場合は能動的に「出席する人」を指す点がやや特殊である。17世紀頃から英語で使われ始めた。
