measure は、物の大きさ・量・程度などを測定すること、またはその基準や単位を指す名詞・動詞。「対策」「手段」という意味でも広く使われる。

ラテン語の mensura（測定）に由来し、古フランス語の mesure を経て中英語に入った。語根の metiri は「測る」を意味し、meter（メートル）や dimension（次元）とも同じ語源を共有している。
