語源 / Etymology
古英語の same は、古ノルド語の samr から借用された語で、「同一の」という意味を持つ。さらに遡ると、ゲルマン祖語の *samaz、印欧祖語の *somHós（「同じ」）に由来する。ギリシャ語の homos（同じ）やサンスクリット語の sama（等しい）とも同根であり、「一つにまとまる、等しい」という概念が原義にある。
