VIM 的作者 Bram Moolenaar 过世了

Dear all,

It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that Bram Moolenaar passed away on 3 August 2023. Bram was suffering from a medical condition that progressed quickly over the last few weeks.

Bram dedicated a large part of his life to VIM and he was very proud of the VIM community that you are all part of.

We as family are now arranging the funeral service of Bram which will take place in The Netherlands and will be held in the Dutch lanuage. The extact date, time and place are still to be determined. Should you wish to attend his funeral then please send a message to [e-mail]. This email address can also be used to get in contact with the family regarding other matters, bearing in the mind the situation we are in right now as family.

@cnbatch 我一直在用 vim ，因为我觉得它好用，我用起来是那么的自然、流畅、随心所欲。我也尝试过 VS code ，感觉还是不顺手，虽然大部分的功能都可以用另一种方式完成，但觉得还是没必要转换，我也不会觉得 VS code 这种编辑器如何差劲儿，只不过我更喜欢 vim 。所有的傲慢，必然外化为鄙视他不懂的事物

我虽非程序员，只是软件爱好者，但也极度喜欢 Vim 。它不仅让文本编辑更高效，并且充满了魔力和优雅。Vim 还提升了我对软件的理解，带来了里程碑式的飞跃——这恐怕是任何其他软件都无法做到的。
Vim 发布于 1991 年，我大约在 2005 年 开始入门，后来就爱不释手。再后来，优秀的 PKM 软件层出不穷，但很多因为无法调用 Vim 编辑而被我忍痛割爱。回顾目前的使用情况，并非每天都使用 Vim ，但它一直固定在任务栏上，并且排在前列。在这些软件中，我也相信 Vim 会是陪伴自己最长久的软件。
在记忆中，与 Bram 的交流仅一次，是我 2012 年 出差乌干达前夕，问他救助项目的情况，想去现场探望，并带去一些朋友捐赠的文具。但在乌期间，传闻埃博拉病毒又有发生，最终未能成行。
但检索邮件，却发现交流并非一次——此前此后，还各有一次。此前是 2009 年，我作为用户向 Vim 做了捐赠，Bram 简单致谢并表示 The money will be used to help needy children in Kibaale, Uganda 。此后是在 2014 年初，Bram 发起了一次募捐活动，我在国内推介并募集资金给他。
我也意识到，这些记忆与遗忘，也反映了在我心中的重要与否。这又让我想起，Bram 也曾在一次采访中说：我更希望用户在来信中，多询问乌干达儿童的救助问题，而不是一些技术问题。

Vim 是伟大的软件。Bram 是伟大的程序员。可称伟大，不仅因为技术，更因为爱。
那时，Bram 在邮件中回复说：Stationary is available in Uganda itself, don't make your suitcase too heavy. Some toys and a football are always welcome. 如今他放下世间行囊，驾鹤西去。回顾一生，他在 Vim 和 Uganda 的坚守，算是 too heavy suitcase 吗？其实他也给出了答案—— a suitcase with toys and football is HAPPY not heavy ~
