語源 / Etymology

古英語の hǣlan（「完全にする、治す」）に由来し、hāl（「健全な、完全な」）という語根を持つ。この語根は whole（全体の）や health（健康）とも共通しており、「元の完全な状態に戻す」という意味が核にある。ゲルマン祖語の *hailjaną にさかのぼる。
